A Court Of Wings And Ruin oh how I have waited for you but I was extremely nervous to read you. A Court Of Mist And Fury was amazing. Would you be able to live up to it? Would you contain the same magic? Would you leave me awestruck for days unable to read anything new so I could hold onto the feelings you called upon for just a little longer?
I wish I could say yes. That I was left completely astounded. That you contained that unnameable element that elevates a book into something beyond the norm... I'm not saying that you weren't a fantastic book. I will definitely reread you again. The whole A Court Of Thorns And Roses series is one of my favorites. I guess I just expected more.
The potential was there. You had an exciting main plot, a cast of characters I adore and an Author who could write about paint drying and still manage to elicit emotion. But maybe that was the problem? There were too many ingredients for you to be able to wrap them all up perfectly unless you wanted to compete with War And Peace for length.
As much as I love everyone in the night court I feel like you spent too much time with supporting characters. Some who I suspect will feature in forthcoming books were given too much page space in order to pique our interest. Others who had been hyped up in previous books were gone because they were now superfluous. You cannot hype a character up as this formidable being only too be rid of them in a couple of short lines. It makes things feel unfinished.
Mostly I'm just disappointed that you didn't really spend that much time with Rhysand and Feyre. It was their developing relationship that made A Court Of Mist And Fury so special. The two of them together have that page turning quality but in A Court of Wings And Ruin it was kind of missing. This was their last book and even though I'm sure we'll see them in future books it won't be the same.
All in all with how much you had to cover you did the best you could. Yes some parts felt glossed over and incomplete but you were still an engrossing book that I didn't want to put down. My house could have caught fire and I would have commando crawled along the ground still turning your pages. Instead I just waded through a flooded bookstore to purchase you something I wouldn't do for just any book. So even though you weren't everything I hoped you would be I still loved you and will be waiting for 2018 when the next in this world is released.
*Sarah J. Maas if you ever want to write a book that is just Rhys and Feyre at the townhouse I promise to buy it!
